Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Closer stranger chat, voice rooms, privacy, and features.

Do I need an account to use Closer?
No. You can start talking to strangers instantly without creating an account. An optional account lets you save preferences across devices, but all core features are available without one.
Is Closer free?
Yes, Closer is completely free to use. Basic features like random matching, video calls, voice rooms, games, and screen sharing are all free. A premium subscription unlocks extended country filters and longer room expiry times.
Is Closer safe?
Closer takes safety seriously. We have a zero-tolerance policy for harassment, hate speech, and any illegal activity. We cooperate fully with law enforcement on serious matters including threats to minors. Users can block and report anyone who violates the rules.
How does stranger matching work?
When you click the call button, Closer sends your profile preferences (gender, country, distance, interests) to our server. The server maintains a pool of people currently looking and runs a matching algorithm every 2 seconds, checking compatibility based on both users' filters. Once a match is found, both users receive a notification and can start talking.
Can I choose who I talk to?
Closer offers extensive filters including gender preference, country selection, city/radius proximity, job matching (employer or employee), and interest-based matching. You can also create private voice rooms and share the code with specific people.
What are voice rooms?
Voice rooms are group calls where up to 15 people can talk simultaneously using Selective Forwarding Unit (SFU) technology. You can create a room, set an optional password, and share the 8-character code. The host can kick, ban, or mute participants. Voice rooms support screen sharing and built-in games.
Does Closer work on mobile?
Yes, Closer works in any modern mobile browser. iOS and Android native apps are coming soon.
Is Omegle back?
No, Omegle is permanently shut down. Closer is an alternative that offers everything Omegle had plus voice rooms, games, screen sharing, proximity matching, and job matching — all without requiring an account.
How does Closer protect my privacy?
Closer uses anonymous identities by default. You are assigned a random fun name with no connection to your real identity. All media is transmitted peer-to-peer via WebRTC with optional TURN relay. Optional accounts use SHA-256 hashed passwords. No personal data is sold or shared with third parties.
Can I report someone on Closer?
Yes. You can report any user directly from the call interface with a category-based report system (sexual harassment, spam, hate speech, fake profile, or other). Reports are stored in our database. Closer also maintains a block list both locally and server-side.
What games are available on Closer?
Closer offers Tic Tac Toe on a 5x4 grid (get 4 in a row to win) and Hangman in three modes: Choose Turns, Team Guess, and Competitive. Games are played over the encrypted data channel during calls.
Can I share my screen on Closer?
